Abstract:
This paper studies how artificial intelligence (AI) affects international trade. We develop a two-country model with heterogeneous firms to analyze the impact of AI on trade patterns, welfare, and income distribution. Our results show that AI can increase trade volumes and improve welfare in both countries, but it may also lead to greater income inequality within each country. The effects of AI on trade depend on the relative productivity levels of the two countries and the degree of market competition.
