(4) Basic requirements of the procurement:
A This system consists of a 200 Tesla
power supply and a 100 Tesla power
supply. The 200Tesla power supply is a
capacitor power supply with a capacit-
ance capable of storing the charge neces-
sary to pass a large current through the
coil for generating the magnetic field in
approximately 10 microseconds, and the
100Tesla power supply is a capacitor
power supply with a capacitance capable
of storing a large amount of energy and
passing it through the coil for generating
the magnetic field in approximately100
milliseconds. Both will be installed at the
Institute for Solid State Physics (Kas-
hiwa, Chiba).
B The system must satisfy the following
specifications.
a This system consists of two indepen-
dent capacitor power supplies, and the
energy that can be stored in the power
supplies is200,000 joules (J) for the 200
Tesla power supply and more than 8
million J for the 100 Tesla power supp-
19
b The charging voltage of a 200Tesla
power supply is 50,000 volts (V) and the
capacitance is 160 microfarads. The
charging voltage of a power
supply is15,000V or less and the ca-
pacitance is 95 millifarads or less
c The discharge current of this power
supply must be 2 million amperes (A) or
more for a 200Tesla power supply, and
20,000 A or more for a 100 Tesla power
supply.
d This system must be able to main-
tain the required performance for more
than 10 years, even if it is repeatedly
charged and discharged at maximum
voltage every30minutes,20times a
day, and operated 200 days a year. In
addition, the system must be able to
perform maintenance and inspection of
the equipment in consultation with the
user, and if any deterioration is found
in any of the capacitors, a system must
be established to promptly propose re-
placement with an equivalent product.
e Equipped with safety devices to pre-
vent accidents involving capacitors,
etc.
C The system must meet the installation
requirements such as the installation
area, floor load capacity, and so on.
