The Sumerian Disputation between Bird and Fish

INTRODUCTION
The Sumerian disputation between Bird and Fish is one of a group of texts that have been called “Sumerian debate poems” or “Sumerian disputations.” The best known of these are the Debate between Hoe and Plough, the Debate between Sheep and Grain, the Debate between Winter and Summer, and the Debate between Silver and Copper.
The text was first published by Edward Chiera in 1929 as CBS 10675.¹ It was republished by Samuel Noah Kramer in 1937 as Ni 2402.² A third copy was published by Miguel Civil in 1968 as UM 29-16-15.³ A fourth copy was published by Jeremy Black in 1985 as BM 17691.⁴ A fifth copy was published by Pascal Attinger in 2005 as N 3367.⁵
