THE HISTORY OF THE JEWS IN BABYLONIA is a study of the history of the Jewish community of Babylonia from the time of the Parthians to the Moslem conquest. It is based upon the Babylonian Talmud and other rabbinic sources, as well as upon non-Jewish sources.
I. Introduction
The history of the Jews in Babylonia is a subject which has been studied by many scholars. The most important work on this subject is that of Graetz, who wrote a history of the Jews in Babylonia in his Geschichte der Juden. Other important works are those of Neubauer, Bacher, and Krauss.
The present study is based upon the Babylonian Talmud and other rabbinic sources, as well as upon non-Jewish sources. It is hoped that this study will contribute to our knowledge of the history of the Jews in Babylonia.
II. The Early Sasanian Period
The early Sasanian period was a time of great change for the Jews in Babylonia. The Sasanians were Zoroastrians, and they were hostile to the Jews. The Jews were persecuted by the Sasanians, and many Jews were killed.
Despite the persecution, the Jews in Babylonia continued to thrive. They established many academies, and they produced many important works of literature. The Babylonian Talmud was compiled during this period.
The early Sasanian period was a time of great importance for the Jews in Babylonia. It was a time of persecution, but it was also a time of great achievement.
